Lachung, which means 'small pass,' is a picturesque town in North Sikkim. Situated close to the Indo–China border, tourists have to get permission from the government before visiting this breathtakingly beautiful hill station. At the top of your list of places to visit should be the Lachung Monastery, which was built in 1850. It is surrounded by apple orchards, and coincidentally, Lachung is famous for its apples as well as peaches and apricots. The handicraft centre has an interesting selection of exquisitely woven rugs and blankets for those who wish to shop. The Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, with the Yumthang Chu flowing through, is a place of beauty and is a good place to visit for a leisurely and scenic stroll. Visitors to Lachung often plan to stay for a night before continuing on to the Yumthang valley, which is a grazing paradise for yaks. All the same, visiting the beautiful Lachung is highly recommended for those looking for peace and relaxation, while surrounded by forests and mountains.
Standing high in the Himalayas at an altitude of 2134 metres, Dorje Ling’, or place of the Thunderbolt, offers breathtaking views of snow-capped mountain peaks, with the Kanchendzonga rising higher than all the others. Often referred to as the ‘Queen of the Hills’, Darjeeling remains just as alluring with its tiny waterfalls, little villages and a narrow gauge railway track. Surrounded by World Famous Tea Gardens and snow-capped mountains, Darjeeling remains one of the most exotic destinations. Graeme Westlake in his book An Introduction to Hill Stations on India’ refers to Darjeeling as having A view Scarcely Unrivalled on Earth. Spend the night at your hotel.
This morning, get up early to visit Tiger Hill to witness a beautiful sunrise and Himalayan Ranges like Kanchandzonga and Mount Everest. On a clear day, you can see the horizon changing colors just before sunrise and then the entire Himalayan range turn golden. From there, proceed to Ghoom Monastery, which is the area’s oldest Monastery, built in 1875. On your way back from Tiger Hill, you can see the 15 feet tall image of Buddha.
Return to your hotel for a breakfast and proceed for a city tour visiting Himalayan Mountaineering Institute(closed on Thursday) which was started by Tenzing Norgay after he climbed Mt. Everest, Zoological Park (closed on Thursday), Tibetan Refugee Centre(closed on Sunday), Tenzing Rock, Gombu Rock and Tea Estate(from outside).

Check-out and drive to Kalimpong. At an altitude of 1250 metres, Kalimpong?s location is ideal for a pleasant, relaxed getaway. Its clement weather has made Kalimpong?s orchids and gladiole well renowned. Up to the early 1700s, the Kalimpong area was part of the Sikkim raja?s domain. In the early 18th century, the Bhutan king also took it over. In 1865, after the Anglo-Bhutan War, it was annexed to Darjeeling. Scottish Missionaries came here in the late 1800s. The town thrived as a wool trading center with Tibet till 1950s. Today it?s a quiet hill resort and a haven for retired people.
