About Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu, a South Indian state, is famed for its Dravidian-style Hindu temples. In Madurai, Meenakshi Amman Temple has high ‘gopuram’ towers ornamented with colourful figures. On Pamban Island, Ramanathaswamy Temple is a pilgrimage site. The town of Kanyakumari, at India’s southernmost tip, is the site of ritual sunrises. Capital Chennai is known for beaches and landmarks including 1644 colonial Fort St. George.
Culturally and historically affluent Tamil Nadu is undoubtedly the reflection of India’s cultural wealth. Occupying the South Eastern belt of the country, the state is a delight for pilgrims and travel enthusiasts alike. The state boasts of temples that date back to almost two millennia and that pretty much explains everything. Cities like Madurai, Kanchipuram, Mahabalipuram and island situated Rameswaram are the usual haunts of the pilgrims. However, it is not only the temples that overwhelm visitors here, making the tip of Indian peninsula; Kanyakumari is also one of the most visited places in Tamil Nadu. The state also flaunts its lush green forests that it borrows from the Western Ghats. Sprawling in a large area; these forests make the home to several wildlife species. Offering respite from the sweltering heat and noise are the hill stations like Ooty and Kodaikanal. Adorned with scenic landscape and salubrious climate, these hill stations are ideal for holiday in Tamil Nadu.

Pondicherry - Although the French influence is gradually fading, Pondicherry retains a few Gallic accents. Pondicherry's main sights are the Rai Nivas, the Sacred Heart Church and the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. The ashram retreat was founded in 1926 by Sri Aurobindo after whose death the spiritual authority passed to one of his disciples, a French woman known as the Mother. The Mother was also instrumental in founding the city of Dawn Auroville, 10 km from Pondicherry. Its original charter aimed at creating a city of the future where people from India and abroad could live and work together in a spiritual environment.
