Day 04: Munich – Trip to Zugspitze

Visit the Top of Germany – Zugspitze. From Munich, it’s only 1 1/2 hours by train & about 1 hour 45 mins by road to the Bavarian Alps, in particular, the former Winter Olympic town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, which is beautiful and lively in its own right. But the real reason to come here is to get to the top of the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest peak at 2,964 m. Get off the train and take a short walk to the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn station (this is a private transportation system, so rail passes don’t work). Get a Zugspitze round trip ticket and take the first train to. There you’ll have to choose whether to continue to the top via cable car or train.

The cable car is steep, spectacular, quick, and it takes you, right to the top. The train is a bit more roundabout–literally, as part of the route is a spiral tunnel inside the mountain–as it takes you to station just below the peak where you can linger or board a cable car for the last piece of the trip. The views are truly awesome and words don’t do them justice. You can apparently see five different countries on a clear day. Also, if you get time why not take a stroll around the Eibsee lake nearby after you’ve taken the hair raising cable car back down from the summit. A full day is recommended for an experience this wonderful mountain & its surroundings.

This tour can be done with transportation in coach & live commentary on Sundays at 10.15am at a supplement of Euro 50 per person.

Day 05: Munich – (by Train) – Frankfurt

Wake up to breakfast this morning. It’s time to make your way on your own to the train station to board your train to Frankfurt, an approximate 4 hr journey, which for many is primarily “Manhattan”, city of finance and skyscrapers, but a closer look reveals a metropolis of many charms: The picturesque houses of the beautifully restored Römerberg in the city centre and the unique “Museum Mile” along the banks of the Main river. Traditional cider pubs in Sachsenhausen shops galore in the elegant Goethestrasse and the “Fressgass” – and a truly world-class cultural and arts scene.

Upon arrival hail a taxi and make your way to your Hotel. Check in, freshen up and get ready to orient yourself a cruise which offers you beautiful views of Frankfurt, the city of contrasts, from the Main river and is a perfect way to get a first impression of the sights this city has to offer you.
